On a snow day… (poems for fun)

0

Sung to the tune of “On a clear day”

On a snow day
Rise and look around you
And you’ll see snow up your window
On a snow day
How it will astound you
That the snowfall through the evening
Lasted all night till the morning
You’ll feel part of every snowflake and snowdrift
You can hear
From far and near
All the wind gusts you’ve never heard before…
‘Cause on a snow day…On a snow day…
It’s all white forever…
And ever…
And ever…
And ever more. . .

green winter giants

arms reach out in silent plea

weighed down with wet snow.

Dancing on the Ice

0

gliding on  ice with the grace of ballet dancers

twirling and floating in perfect timing

with  unbridled passion like first-time lovers

shaving trails in ice with powerful strokes

around the rink the best of figure skaters

tracing history with magnificent ice dancing.

i don’t know how to say goodbye…

2
frankly, i don’t even remember how it happened…
how it ended, that is….
it’s all a blur to me now…
you know how messed up i was then…
i don’t think i ever said goodbye to anyone…
just slipped away into something else or somewhere else…
like water slipping through your hands…
never becoming attached…
i don’t think i ever let myself get attached…
to anything…
to anyone…
too much…
because i didn’t know how…
maybe didn’t want to know how…
to get attached…
so i wouldn’t have to say goodbye…

what the new year brings

2

nice and bright

new year, new light

new thoughts, new themes

looking forward to

what the new year brings.

first poem of the year

bare-branched christmas tree
standing silent smelling sweet
another year gone.

My vigil is done

0
The night is long
My vigil done.
Done the songs
The mourners gone
In marble urn
Her frailty burned
Her spirit flown
To worlds unknown.

Winter Haiku

white snow-laden trees

winter once again.

the empty canvas (a poem)

0

an empty canvas stands

in my living room waiting

hidden behind the layers of white

a myriad images call to me

begging me to coax them into being

clamoring for attention

paint me! one calls

no, me! croons another

me…me…me… another pleads

and yet another merely stares

with eyeless sight

the tubes and bottles of paint

sit silently accusing me of indecision

my brushes whisper hissing

static releasing sparks in the crisp september air.

i hitched my dream… (poem)

2

i hitched my dream to a falling star

and like the star it didn’t go far

i hitched my dream to a growing tree

it grew so tall but was not free

i hitched my dream to a free wild bird

it soared up high but was not heard

i freed my dream, let loose its reins

it shouts, it soars, it grows without restraint.
