Sonnet II (poem)

what sweet delight that in me fills my soul

when spring comes surging through my being whole

what fate so sweet no lover could ask more

than but to lie in lover’s arms in peace

more full yet than the warmth of Ra’s hot core.

ah, sleep! that slumber of eternal bliss

such dreams as are awaken by your kiss

that but does serve to send me spinning off

like meteor’s flight in heav’nly galaxies

leave trails of light and stardust in the skies

to gently settle in my lover’s eyes

full so with sparkle of unearthly light.

ah, sweet in me, what godly-filled delight

those silver threads that run into a million nights!

Sonnet I (poem)

how longer yet must i

evade thy langorous look

that pierces me to my very core?

how stranger yet that i

should wither ‘neath your gaze

yet of your overwhelming pow’r

still silently beg for more.

ah, fate! like lovers shy

must we forever stay?

and from the corner of my eye

can i forever be content

with glimpses stolen from time?

how many a line full well can i

as this yet write for thee?

only as many as the stars in the sky

and the droplets in the sea.

Musings While Perusing (poem)

It seems the day will never pass

Until I hear from you at last

The phone lies still, no rings emit

As all night long by it I sit

And though I will myself to sleep

Sweet slumber dare not upon me creep.

‘Tis strange I feel the way I do

Is it perchance how you feel too?

How longer yet can I keep still

This heart that leaps by its free will?

The printed letters leap at me

Albeit I try my best to see

The open book before me lain

While visions of you come not in vain.

Words from this page may not stick fast

But thoughts of you shall forever last.

While Celebrating A Friend’s Birthday (poem)

so turns another night to morn

but what night!

i sit alone

and yet my thoughts are drifting

far over mellow city lights

that lend their glow to silent vigil

with hidden stars and moon

sky shares my loneliness

from parting far too soon

it seems

though miles away you be

you’ll always be beside me

no other thoughts dare hover near

they know they merit no attention

not much ado they matter

but night!

time flies so quickly when you’re around

so slowly when you’re gone

if only time would share my plight

and linger longer when we’re together

not much is there that i can do

to hasten the minutes or still the seconds

what more is there to seek

but wait until

the days bring us yet closer?

Idyll in Lalaguna (poem)

my mind’s eye wanders

drifting aimlessly as night

grows deeper

floating on a breeze

cool, serene

i long for a warmth

i seek it as air lends

slight chill to mortal frame

hoping that the wind

blows strong, faithfully

lending its wings to love

that soft, my words whispered

may float on away

past emerald isle

over corals and blue sea

aloft on clouds of dreams

to gently burst over you

and deliver

those timeless words

of lovers true

that though they do not

reach par

with Shakespearian verse

of sweet words love-laden

we may share

betwixt us two

the ageless, endless

rosy hues

of love

though pummelled by storms

and tossed and thrown

remains unshaken

undaunted and firm

so thus do i dream

of flawless emotion

and thence shall i love

with endless devotion.

after a sleepless night (poem)

i’d watched the hours going by

as moon was waning in the sky

i’d counted minutes and as they died

i’ve longed for you here at my side.

long yet have i to wait for dawn

for birds to greet the morn with song

how longer yet have i to lie

and wait for you as seconds fly

the seconds take eternity

it seems, till once again by me

you’ll be, that we may share love’s sweetest songs

as we together greet a million dawns.

softly

ever so gently

no other words

have crept upon me

unknowing as now,

unaware

i have been caught up

in warm embrace

that fills me

and waiting

i lie

comforted

by the assurance

of your memory

lingering within me

i feel

as though i now

have reached

a harbor

one peaceful cove

in starlit sea

guarded by moon

and trees

weathering all storms

i rest

at peace with earth

no troubles

bother me

i long for

a chance

that i might return

in full measure running over,

myself.

and wide awake i dream (poem)

why so

mind wanders

wee hours of morn

creep upon me

unsuspecting

i dream

wide awake

and take myself

to isolated

mountain lake

i drift

as a boat

from shore to shore

and find myself

on treetop

sharing harmonies

with stars

and awaken

in clouds

drifting once more

from star to star

am i

the moon

i see all things below me

i light earth

in soft haze

and find myself bathed

in cool light

on dewy grass

watching the moon

calling to the dawn

with soft song

i sing.

whispering night

cool breezes merge

into morning

i find myself

floating

in an endless sea

lulling me

with soft caresses

a warmth enveloping

lifting me

on crests of white

higher i float

i soar

so high i merge with sky

ocean and sky

and i

am left a star

peering down on

sleeping earth

quiet, calm

calmly i sail

with moon

with clouds

dare i reach

for other stars

what other star

that i may share

his warmth?

Rainy Days (poem)

cumulus clouds collect

covering sky and shading earth

i feel

their pressure building even within me

as they darken

menacingly threaten

and finally burst

a gentle shower that

coaxes tears to flow

in rivulets, then torrents

and finally subsiding

to faint sobs

— a distant rumbling in the sky

after a shower.
